Isolated unweighted fast knee flexions relate to maximal step frequency and sprint speed in female track athletes
Abstract
Peak Angular Acceleration of the shank (PAA) during isolated unweighted fast knee flexions was measured in 16 female athletes. This study investigates (1) whether PAA is positively related to sprint performance, (2) whether it differs between the first and the second 30 m of a 60 m sprint, and (3) its relationship with step frequency and step length in both phases. Participants wore Inertial Measurement Units (IMUs) on both feet and the shank of the dominant leg and executed isolated knee flexions in a prone position, followed by a maximal 60m sprint with time gates at 30 and 60 m. The IMU data and outcome measures derived from the IMUs are stored with the scripts (Python and R) used for analysis.
