Abstract

The aim of this study was to improve the (positive) health and, with it, the self-determination of people with low literacy skills by means of financial incentives and guidance, and also to investigate how people experience being supported in this way. This feasibility and pilot study had a multi-method design, consisting of qualitative methods: journey mapping and focus group interviews, and quantitative methods: oral questionnaires: HLS-EU-Q16, BPNSFS-ID and PG-17. The intervention period during which people received financial incentives and guidance lasted six months. The participants were adults with low literacy skills and were recruited based on the experience of referring professionals from language education and health or welfare organisations. Descriptive data were collected on the demographic characteristics. Two focus group discussions were held with stakeholders. Data on the perspectives of participants and coaches were collected using Participant Journey Maps. These Maps consist of a timeline and the experiences during the intervention.
