Lexical gaps in the vocabulary of the language (based on the Uzbek language)
Abstract
This article analyzes the phenomenon of lexical lacunae in the Uzbek language from a theoretical and comparative linguistic perspective. The study focuses on unnamed concepts, that is, conceptual units that exist in human consciousness but lack linguistic expression. While traditional linguistics has primarily focused on the study of named concepts and their semantic relationships, this paper emphasizes the significance of concepts that are present in thought but have not been verbally expressed in language. The absence of individual lexical units in the Uzbek language is explained through the description of the corresponding concepts, demonstrating that filling such lexical lacunae is an important condition for enriching the language's vocabulary and expanding its expressive potential. The study emphasizes the need to assess lexical lacunae not only through cross-linguistic comparisons but also by taking into account the internal structural features of the language itself. The results obtained indicate that the systematic identification and classification of lexical lacunae in the Uzbek language play an important role in the development of theoretical linguistics, the enrichment of the national vocabulary, and the support of word formation and semantic development. Keywords: lexical lacuna, unnamed concept, lexicon, nomination, Uzbek language, semantics, linguistic system.
