Abstract

IE TCD MS 9421/2199: Letter from George J. Wardle, Stockport Labour Representation Committee, Central Committee Rooms, Mechanics' Institute to Michael Davitt dated 9th January 1906 requesting that Davitt speak at the demonstration in support of Wardle's candidature in the 1906 General Election. Headed notepaper includes a photograph of Wardle: "Dear Sir, The polling day here has only just been fixed & that is for Tuesday Jany 16th. The tory's have secured both large halls in the town (some time ago) for the Monday night Jany 15th. To counteract this we propose to hold a monster open air demonstration on a square just outside the largest hall in the town & where will be held the big tory meeting. Will you kindly oblige us by coming to speak at our demonstration on Monday 15th inst. We are assured we are in a winning fight but we trust you will come & help us in this to make the position doubly sure..."
