Abstract

IE TCD MS 9376/1034: Letter from Michael Davitt, Dalkey, Co. Dublin, Ireland to Father Patrick O'Grady, Mercedes, Buenos Aires, Argentina dated 25th March 1904 referencing his trip to the United States which has been marred by ill-health, and which is preventing him from tavelling to Argentina: "Once again and for the third time, I find myself thwarted in an intention to visit the Argentine. I have been almost continuously ill since I landed in New York, six weeks ago, while my trip out here, to what is generally called a genial climate, has not yet removed all the after effects of a bad attack of influenza. I am consequently going back home. I will sail from New York on the 15th of April, and I must therefore postpone, until some more favourable opportunity, my long desired wish, to count the Argentine among the countries visited by me. I am disappointed at this third failure to realise a long felt desire, but I still hope to carry out my original intention before old age compels me to give up the pleasure of travelling. With all good wishes and trusting I shall have the satisfaction of finding you "at home" in 1905..." Recovered by Mrs. Mary Davitt.
