Abstract

IE TCD MS 9376/1047: Letter from Reverend James Owen Hannay (=George A. Birmingham), The Rectory, Westport, Co. Mayo to Mary Davitt dated 16th September 1907 in response to Mary's call for letters written by her late husband Michael: "I saw your letter in the Independent and send you now copies of the only two letters I ever had from Mr. Davitt. I would send you the originals but that one of them is stuck into a scrap book along with a number of pages of a private nature. Whether these letters will be of any use to you in your work I do not know. To me they are very valuable as the only things I possess to remind me of one whom I never knew but long regarded as the most pure and brave Irish man of his generation..."
