Abstract

Avocational Archaeologist Robert "Bob" Ogle systematically collected artifacts from sites in Central and Southern Maryland for over 50 years. In 2009, Ogle donated his entire artifact collection to Anne Arundel County, Maryland. The collection consists of 176 boxes of artifacts, as well as annotated quadrangle maps, notebooks, and photographs linking collections to known archaeological sites. The collection is composed predominantly of Native artifacts, but included colonial and 19th century materials from notable sites. In 2019, Anne Arundel County received a grant from the Maryland Historical Trust to catalog and rehouse the majority of the Ogle Collection, specifically the portions of the collection from Anne Arundel, Prince George's, Calvert, and Charles Counties. As part of this grant project, 150 Hollinger boxes of material were processed and cataloged representing 154 separate archaeological sites, containing over 160,000 artifacts. The collection is ripe for further analysis. The collection is now held by three different entities: Anne Arundel County holds artifacts from sites in Anne Arundel County; the The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC) Archaeology Office holds artifacts from sites on Prince George's County Parks property, and the Maryland Archaeological Conservation Lab holds artifacts from Calvert County, Charles County, and sites in Prince George's county not on county parkland.
