Abstract

A new species of Leucophora (Robineau-Desvoidy) is described from Argentina, Leucophora longilingua Ramírez-Mora and Patitucci sp. n. This new species is characterised by a very long proboscis and a plumose arista. Male and female specimens are described, with detailed illustrations, photographs, and scanning electron microscopy images. The ultrastructure of the mouthparts is described for the first time for the genus. A distribution map and comments on the morphology and biology of Leucophora species with long proboscis are provided.
