Recurrent Pemphigoid Gestationis: A Case Report
Abstract
Pemphigoid gestationis (PG), also referred to as herpes gestationis (a misnomer), is an uncommon autoimmune condition that causes subepidermal blistering and occurs exclusively during pregnancy. We present the case of a 29-year-old multigravida who developed recurrent PG during her second pregnancy at 20 weeks of gestation, with characteristic periumbilical onset, rapid spread, and a history of a similar course of illness in her previous pregnancy.Early diagnosis on the basis of characteristic origin and spread, and administration of systemic corticosteroid therapy, led to early symptom control, with referral to obstetrics for close antenatal monitoring.
