Asymmetric Intrastromal Corneal Segments in the Surgical Treatment of Keratoconus: A Literature Review
Abstract
Asymmetric keratoconus presents significant challenges for visual rehabilitation due to localized ectasia and irregular astigmatism. This literature review summarizes current evidence on asymmetric intrastromal corneal segments, including modern adjustable designs, and their role in correcting complex keratotopographic phenotypes. The use of asymmetric segments allows more targeted corneal reshaping and improved visual quality compared with conventional symmetric intrastromal corneal segments (ICRS).
