Abstract

Due to its simplicit y and cost-ef fec tiveness, the subarachnoid block is a time tested as well as more reliable technique of regional anesthesia for lower abdominal and lower limb surgeries.Despite widespread use of bupivacaine alone in spinal anesthesia, the short duration of its action often limits its use in prolonged surgeries and for postoperative pain control.[1][2][3] To address these limitations nowadays, many adjuvants such as opioids, magnesium sulphate, vasopressors, and alpha-2 adrenergic agonists (clonidine and dexmedetomidine) have been extensively used.
