Abstract

The Henry Vincent Couper Memorial Carillion was started as the Warren Elmer Hinds Memorial Chime. In 1937, the Dr. Warren Elmer Hinds Chime was installed in the Old Chapel at the Massachusetts State College. It had 10 bells that had been cast by the Meneely Bell Foundry (Troy, New York, US). In 1999, those bells were sent to the Royal Eijsbouts Bell Foundry (Asten, Holland, NL) for refurbishing, and then were re-hung with two additional new Royal Eijsbouts Bell Foundry bells. The twelve bells from that work remain. The instrument was enlarged into the Henry Vincent Couper Memorial Carillon in 2004. It is a carillon of 42 bells and the bells were cast by The Royal Eijsbouts Bell Foundry. In 2013, an electro-pneumatic auto-play system was installed by the Royal Eijsbouts Bell Foundry. The University also has a swinging bell from 1892 that was cast by the Meneely Bell Foundry (Troy, New York, US). It is located in the Seth Thomas tower clock.
