Abstract

These data include models of spatial sampling bias for South American ants, occurrence data for individual species, and maps of species occurrences and polygon range estimates. The models of spatial sampling bias include one based on kernel density from occurrences of all South American ants from the Global Ant Biodiversity Informatics (GABI) database as well as one built from GABI ant records using variables thought to predict relative sampling effort (e.g., roads, distance to cities). The point data is also from GABI. It is saved as one species per csv file, with each csv file named for the species it represents. Coordinates are given in decimal degrees using WGS84. The "real_species_pair_maps.pdf" file contains pairs of closely related species that were used for the background/similarity analysis portion of the study, with polygonal ranges drawn around each species' occurrence points to estimate range overlap.
