Abstract

We addressed neural cell origins during development of the Clytia hemisphaerica planula larva. We concluded that two distinct neurogenesis pathways operate during Clytia embryogenesis, one involving ectodermal delamination, and one generating many nematoblasts and some neurons from i-cell-like precursors. These conclusions are supported by 6 kinds of image data: Colorimetric In situ hybridisation images of nematogenesis marker genes. Confocal images and stacks of Double Fluorescent In situ hybridisation images for pairs of marker genes. Confocal images and stacks of Double Fluorescent HCR images for pairs of marker genes. Confocal stacks of gastrula stage embryos with Phalloidin and Hoechst labelling. Confocal images and stacks of planulae derived from embryo bisection experiments. Confocal images and stacks of planulae derived from Lineage tracing experiments.
