Abstract

We are providing data on the mammals of Rwanda, compiled from published articles, field survey results, and secondary sources. These reviews emphasize the role of IUCN in documenting the data and fostering conservation actions for mammals. We explored a case study of Rwanda, located in East Africa. These data are connected with the article under Wildlife Biology (https://doi.org/10.1002/wlb3.01598). In Excel files, we provide: Mammal occurrences for Rwanda from IUCN Red List and Mammal Diversity Database (S1), a documentation (field results, checklists, reports) for the mammals of Rwanda (S2), revisions of the IUCN Red List for Rwanda with taxonomic and occurrence updates (S3), documentation for the novel mammal records for Rwanda through field reassessments and taxonomic updates (S4), and a list of 215 mammal species for Rwanda fulfilling country tags of Present, Reintroduced, Introduced, or Possibly Extant (S5). In a text file, we provide a summary of changes in taxonomic and mammal species occurrences by 2025 for Rwanda (S6). We also shared two data files and the R scripts (in an Rmd file) used to generate the two plots used in the article. A long-term project was previewed in the free Zenodo repository (https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.18970942) and was initiated with similar data. By openly sharing these resources, the data holders agree with the license waiver applicable for this entire dataset or any part of it.
