Abstract

Australia’s colonial past is marked by dispossession and violence against First Nations peoples, yet tourism often overlooks this dark legacy. This chapter explores emerging efforts to foreground Indigenous histories through commemorative sites and tourism experiences led by Indigenous communities. Analysing visitor reactions through user-generated content, the study highlights how tourists reflect on these experiences and how they can contribute to reconciliation. The authors argue that inclusive tourism can deepen public understanding of historical trauma and support cultural resilience.
