The Seaplane Base at Desenzano
Abstract
Desenzano’s seaplane base was a centre of Fascist aviation achievement and propaganda in the 1930s. Though its memory faded under postwar damnatio memoriae , debates have emerged about its preservation. While current plans envision hotel development, a growing movement supports converting the site into a museum. This paper examines the site’s symbolic weight, layered histories, and its potential as a case of contested memory within heritage tourism.
