Abstract

From the onset South African klaverjas players and clubs were working steadfastly and consistently towards the establishment of its first national coordinating body. The South Peninsula Klawerjas Union was particularly active and became the driving force behind the initiative to establish a South African Klaverjas Board of Control. This chapter documents the ebb and flow of these developments, and its intersections with key national and international events, including the imposition of punitive economic sanctions against South Africa, and the dramatic effects and impact of the international sports boycott on competitive card playing.
