Abstract

This article discusses Sam Hope’s contributions to the Person-Centered Approach (PCA) in clinical work with trans and gender-diverse people. Presented Hope’s work. The notion of gender incongruence, the experience of violence, and debates on “detransition” are analyzed. The gender possibilities constitution, transition, and euphoria are explored. Clinical implications are discussed regarding the revision of hierarchies in the relationship, the construction of safety, and congruence and unconditional positive regard as ethically and politically implicated practices. It is concluded that Hope’s contributions strengthen a PCA committed to not reproducing structural violence.
