Short-term surgical outcomes of ventral hernia repair using Ventralex ST™ patch: a single-center retrospective study
Abstract
Purpose: The Ventralex ST™ patch enables intraperitoneal mesh placement through a small incision and is designed to simplify open repair of small-to-medium ventral hernias. However, outcome data specific to Korean patients remain limited. Materials and Methods:This single-center retrospective study evaluated patients who underwent open ventral hernia repair using the Ventralex ST™ between January 2024 and June 2025.Demographics, hernia characteristics, operative variables, postoperative course, complications classified by Clavien-Dindo (C-D) grade, follow-up duration, recurrence, and costs were evaluated. Results: A total of 29 patients were included (mean age 61.0±13.6 years).Mean body mass index (BMI) was 28.6±5.5 kg/m 2 ; 27.6% had BMI ≥30 kg/m 2 , 17.2% had liver disease including cirrhosis.Hernias were umbilical in 34.5% and incisional in 65.5%, with a mean defect size of 2.5±1.6 cm (62.1%
