Transformando resíduos em saberes:
Abstract
Approximately 32% of plastic used globally, especially packaging, is improperly discarded, leading to ecosystem pollution. Recycling and plastic reuse are essential strategies to mitigate the environmental impacts of plastic waste. This study, developed by the Environmental Awareness Program (PROSA), aimed to repurpose plastic waste into educational toys. The methodology involved collecting recyclable materials, primarily PET bottles, by PROSA members and volunteers, and transforming them into didactic tools, such as a bilboquê with a shark-shaped base and a turtle-shaped or a fish-shaped ball, designed to teach concepts related to shark feeding through play-based learning. These toys serve as pedagogical resources during PROSA’s outreach activities, illustrating the potential of plastic reuse in educational contexts. The program's growing recognition, driven by partnerships and participation in community events, reinforces its role as a key actor in Environmental Education and the promotion of sustainable practices. The findings suggest that repurposing recyclable materials into educational toys is an effective and engaging strategy for fostering accessible environmental education. PROSA’s visibility in outreach and educational events highlights its transformative potential and demonstrates that low-cost, community-driven actions can significantly contribute to sustainability efforts.
