Abstract

It's becoming easier for people to get medicines, either by self-medication or based on a doctor's prescription, with the increasing number of pharmacies and the variety of services or facilities offered by pharmacies. But the irrational use of drugs in society is still quite high. Errors occurring when using drugs can trigger several adverse events, including when drugs that are consumed do not give optimal results or even cause toxic effects. In addition, irrational use of drugs can have an economic impact, for example, resulting in an increase in medical costs. The community service of the GERDU KUAT aims to increase the knowledge of participants about the use of drugs for special purposes. This community service is carried out using direct methods. Pretests and posttests were used to show how knowledge has advanced, and door prizes were awarded to those who could answer the presenter's questions. There was an increase in the participants' knowledge based on the results obtained at the posttest compared to the results at the pretest. The enthusiasm of the educational participants can be seen from the positive responses shown during the material exposure. Some of the participants seemed busy noting and listening to the explanations while reading the leaflets shared before the education began. Educational activities about the use of medicines for special purposes increase the knowledge of participants. The increase in knowledge is also expected to raise the public's awareness and make them more sensible and cautious in their use of medicines.
