Abstract

This thesis investigates the feasibility of combining home-based transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) with exercise for people with knee osteoarthritis (OA). Study 1, an eight-week pilot double-blinded randomised controlled trial, met predefined feasibility criteria and showed trends toward reduced pain and improved function. Study 2 explored patient perceptions of home-based tDCS and revealed a strong preference for non-invasive, home-based treatments and highlighted the importance of safety, autonomy, and alignment with personal values. By integrating patient perspectives with clinical data, this thesis offers a comprehensive understanding of how home-based tDCS and exercise can be effectively implemented for people with knee OA.
