Abstract

Most Ukrainians faced severe stress in February 2022 during the outbreak of military action in Ukraine. In march 2022 52,7 % of Ukrainian adults had symptoms of psychological distress, 54,1 % of them reported symptoms of anxiety, 46,8 % reported symptoms of depressions [1].In such a difficult situation, medical students turned out to be a vulnerable category, as they already had stress factors as a result of the educational process, namely, a heavy academic workload, chronic lack of sleep and the need to combine their studies with work or family responsibilities [2, 3].Of course, the outbreak of military action had an additional, extremely negative impact on the mental health of medical students [4].The article is devoted to study the mental health of fourth-year and sixth-year medical students who studied at the Endocrinology Department of the Dnipro State Medical University during the war, as well as the specifics of the educational process organization during the war.Mental health of the medical students was assessed using the Hamilton Anxiety Scale [5.6].The obtained results indicate a high level of anxiety among medical students, which was 61.4% of the fourth-year and 75.7% of the sixthyear. Both in the fourth-year and sixth-year of study women were more susceptible to anxiety.Among fourth-year students the predominant symptoms were anxious mood, tension, insomnia, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal and autonomic symptoms.Sixthyear students also frequently experienced anxious mood, tension, cardiovascular, autonomic symptoms and intellectual disorders, which are probably the result of the influence of both the war and the study process prolonged intellectual strain.Negative changes in medical students' lifestyles were also identified. The prevalence of smoking and eating disorders among medical students increased significantly during the war.The obtained results indicate that medical students during wartime need the psychological support from university lecturers as well as specialized psychiatric care.University lecturers ensure high quality and safety of the education during wartime. In
