Abstract

The article addresses the problem of teaching specialized translation in higher education and focuses on the methodological aspects of forming professional translation competence among university students. In the context of growing demand for specialists capable of working with professionally oriented texts, specialized translation plays an increasingly important role in foreign language education, particularly in non-linguistic study programmes. However, methodological approaches to teaching specialized translation in higher education remain insufficiently systematised and often limited to isolated classroom techniques. The study aims to analyse key methodological aspects of teaching specialized translation and to identify effective approaches that contribute to the development of thematic, terminological, and pragmatic competences. The research is based on a qualitative methodology that combines theoretical analysis of contemporary studies in translation pedagogy and foreign language teaching with pedagogical reflection grounded in teaching practice. Methods of analysis, synthesis, comparison, and generalisation are employed to examine current trends and challenges in specialized translation training. The article outlines the core principles of teaching specialized translation, emphasising a competence-based and practice-oriented approach.Particular attention is paid to the selection of authentic professional materials, the staging of translation instruction, and the integration of reflective practices into the learning process. The findings indicate that systematic organisation of translation tasks and their alignment with real professional contexts enhance students' readiness for professional communication and improve the effectiveness of translation training. The article concludes that a structured methodological approach to teaching specialized translation contributes not only to the development of foreign language proficiency but also to the formation of professional competences required in contemporary higher education.Prospects for further research include the use of digital technologies and artificial intelligence in translation training, as well as the development of assessment criteria for professional translation competence.
