IMPLEMENTING AI TOOLS IN TESTING TECHNOLOGIES FOR ASSESSING STUDENTS’ FOREIGN LANGUAGE COMPETENCE
Abstract
The rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) has significantly transformed educational assessment practices, particularly in the field of foreign language testing. This article explores the implementation of AI-powered tools in testing technologies aimed at assessing students' foreign language competencies. The author examines how machine learning algorithms, natural language processing, and automated speech recognition can enhance the reliability, validity, and efficiency of language assessment across listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills.Special attention is given to adaptive testing systems that personalize assessment tasks according to learners' proficiency levels, providing immediate feedback and reducing examiner bias. The study also discusses the pedagogical benefits and challenges of integrating AI into language testing, including data privacy, ethical considerations, and the need for teacher training. The findings suggest that AI-based testing technologies can support more objective, scalable, and learner-centered assessment models, thereby contributing to the modernization of foreign language education and aligning evaluation practices with contemporary educational demands. This review examines research on technology-enhanced language assessment, focusing on effectiveness, reliability, learner experience, and pedagogical implications.Contemporary research underscores the consensus among educators that continuous assessment throughout the academic term yields a more accurate representation of student learning than traditional high-stakes examinations. The emergence of advanced AI applications, such as ChatGPT, has further influenced educators to prioritize in-class assessments, leveraging AI to facilitate more dynamic and authentic evaluation processes. The author also analyzes the challenges and concerns that arise through implementing innovative testing technologies for assessing students' language competence.
