Abstract

Artificial intelligence (AI) is fundamentally reshaping contemporary educational practice, offering both wide pedagogical opportunities and significant ethical challenges in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) instruction.Generative AI tools can support personalised feedback, simulate authentic communicative situations, and facilitate complex learning tasks. However, the absence of a pedagogically grounded and ethically coherent framework for AI use in EFL has led to growing concerns regarding academic integrity, authorship, data protection, transparency, and equity. The problem addressed in this study lies in the gap between existing AI regulation standards and their practical implementation in education, where instructors often lack guidance for ethically integrating AI into instructional design, assessment, and learner interaction. The goal of this research is to develop and illustrate an academic integrity framework for AI-assisted EFL instruction that translates regulatory principles into actionable pedagogical practices. The study systematises eight core principles -Risk-based Governance, Safety, Privacy, Fairness, Transparency, Human Oversight, Awareness Building, and Intellectual Property Protection -and examines their interplay within higher education language instruction.Methodologically, the research employs a qualitative Актуальні питання у сучасній науці № 1(43) 2026 1201 multiple-case study design, showcasing ethical principles of AI implementation through two Master's-level EFL case studies: Public Speaking and English for Media. The findings show how ethical principles can be implemented in the instructional design, assessment, audience analysis, and data-driven tasks without undermining learner authenticity or academic and professional skill development. The study contributes both theoretically and practically by bridging ethical AI discourse with applied EFL pedagogy and by offering educators a replicable, discipline-oriented framework for responsible AI integration. The proposed model supports sustainable educational innovation, safeguarding academic values, learner autonomy, and institutional accountability in AI-enhanced language education.
