Abstract

This essay investigates the persistence of abandoned digital artworks as melancholic residues within machinic systems of production. Rather than framing failure as a generative catalyst, it examines unactivated project files as agents of speculative resistance—as artifacts that are neither deleted nor resolved into productivity. Drawing on posthuman theory, the machinic unconscious, and concepts such as Deleuze and Guattari’s body without organs, the text explores how these digital remnants occupy a topology of suspended intention, nested within infrastructures of flow but refusing activation. Through theoretical interlocutors including Rosi Braidotti, Reza Negarestani, and François Bonnet, the essay articulates a counter-methodology grounded in stasis, latency, and the refusal of continuous output. These fragments are not signs of incompletion to be redeemed, but forms of antiproduction that challenge the hyperpresent temporality of digital culture and the capitalist imperative to perform.
