Knowing not Knowing
Abstract
The poetry series reflects my field research on the traditional knowledge of preserving food. While the idea of intangible culture is increasingly recognized around the world today, home cooks and community members, who are most involved in practicing and sharing the knowledge, weren't recognized properly. The idea that only text-based documentation with formalized language is considered knowledge overlooks how practical knowledge was traditionally generated and passed on. The view of knowledge as fluid, collaborative and communicative is a step towards a post-colonial knowledge system.
