Saúde bucal na gestação: uma breve revisão de literatura
Abstract
The objective of the study is to discuss the importance of oral health during pregnancy, emphasizing the role of the dental surgeon in prenatal care and the influence of social, cultural, and educational factors on adherence to dental care. Structured as a descriptive bibliographic review, developed based on scientific publications published between 2004 and 2025, consulted in the SciELO, PubMed, and LILACS databases. It was identified that pregnancy constitutes a period of intense hormonal and physiological transformations capable of increasing susceptibility to oral diseases, especially pregnancy gingivitis, dental caries, and oral pyogenic granuloma — a benign hyperplastic lesion associated with an exacerbated inflammatory response potentiated by hormonal factors. It was recognized that cultural barriers, lack of information, and limitations in access to health services negatively interfere with the search for dental care. It was verified that the integration of dentistry into prenatal care makes it possible to prevent complications, promote health education, and ensure better outcomes for maternal and child health. It is concluded that strengthening public policies focused on dental care for pregnant women and encouraging educational practices constitutes an essential measure to ensure well-being and quality of life, reaffirming the relevance of the preventive and multiprofessional approach in health care.
