Analysis of the effectiveness of the AJO VET DIETA STRUVITE veterinary diet in struvite urolithiasis in cats
Abstract
Urolithiasis is a polyethological disease characterized by the presence and effect of urolithiasis or a large number of crystals on the urinary tract. The basic principle of treating urolithiasis in cats is the removal or dissolution of crystals. Special diets are usually used by veterinarians to reduce the concentration of struvite's mineral constituents. This article presents research on the effect of using the dry veterinary diet "AJO VET DIETA STRUVITE" by the LIMKORM group of companies in cats with struvite-type urolithiasis on the general urine analysis, urine bacterial culture, and urine chemical composition. The study was conducted on 10 non-pedigree cats with a confirmed diagnosis of struvite-type urolithiasis: the animals were selected using the pair-analog method, with 50% males and 50% females. All animals were sterilized and vaccinated according to the vaccination schedule, and the animals were previously examined for helminths. The cats in the experimental group were fed a dry veterinary diet called "AJO VET DIETA STRUVITE" by the LIMKORM group of companies for 1 month, according to the instructions. No additional medication was administered to the animals. Samples were collected three times: before feeding, 14 days after feeding, and 1 month after feeding. The studies have shown that the use of AJO VET DIETA STRUVITE veterinary diet for 30 days in cats with urolithiasis results in the following: normalization of pH levels and a significant reduction in crystalluria; a tendency towards a decrease in calcium and magnesium levels and an increase in creatinine excretion, indicating effective renal filtration and good concentrating ability; As a result of the bacteriological examination of urine, no microorganisms were detected, which indicates the absence of an inflammatory process in the bladder. The presence of isolated cocci in urine samples collected in a conventional manner indicates inflammation of the urinary tract, which is characteristic of urolithiasis. Therefore, the administration of AJO VET DIETA STRUVITE veterinary diet to the experimental animals, even for one month, resulted in the normalization of the urine parameters in the study animals.
