Article contains a comparison between Polish and American prison press. Main aim of the article is to analyze historical development and current role of prison journalism in Poland and in the United States of America. A comparison of the role of the press prepared (not only) by people deprived of liberty, its reach, the goals set for prison editorial group and the functions performed by newspapers created in prisons in both countries may be a contribution to consider the direction of changes and the potential that lies in prison journalism.
