Abstract

This is the dataset for the paper "Contribution of tangential CMB-mantle flow between hot mantle plumes and cold downwellings to ULVZ formation and morphology". input_files/ contains the ASPECT parameter files for the comparative models of Section 3.3, which examine the effect of cold anomalies — cold-anomaly decay, the absence of a CMB thermal perturbation, and a more distant cold anomaly.plugin/ contains the ASPECT plugins: simplified_model/ is a slightly modified version of the original ASPECT material model, adapted to the material parameters of the simplified model in Section 2.4, and topography-velocity_model/ provides the plugin and its input parameter files for the CMB dynamic topography–tangential velocity coupling of Section 3.4.plot_figure1/ contains the S12RTS tomography grid at 2800 km depth and the GMT 6 script that reproduces Figure 1, overlaying the ULVZ locations compiled by Yu and Garnero (2017) with those detected in recent literature. Figure 1's red areas are the Yu and Garnero (2017) compilation (stored as the 0.5° grid tmp.grd), the orange areas are the recently reported ULVZs listed in plot.sh.
