Theoretical paper on neurodiversity in the technology bubble
Abstract
Technology bubbles are empirically said to go through the following two stages: 1. A bubble driven by speculation 2. A bubble driven by real demand (Most new technologies only reach the first stage, and very few reach the second stage.) I hypothesize that people with subthreshold ADHD traits plays a role in supporting the speculative bubble stage. I also hypothesize that people with subthreshold autism traits plays a role in supporting the real demand bubble stage. Furthermore, I hypothesize that one reason large corporations lose their ability to adapt to technological innovation is that they have few employees with developmental disabilities, or that individuals with developmental disabilities do not hold positions of power within the company. I call this hypothesis the "Technology Bubble Neurodiversity Hypothesis." I believe this paper offers novelty compared to existing research in the following respects: ・A hypothesis that, during the "early failure" phase of the error-rate bathtub curve, individuals with ADHD are more prone to taking action compared to neurotypical individuals. ・A hypothesis linking ADHD to the speculative bubble within the technology bubble. ・A hypothesis linking Autism Spectrum Disorder to the "real demand" bubble within the technology bubble. ・A hypothesis attributing the difficulty large corporations face in adapting to technological innovation to a lack of neurodiversity. ・A hypothesis suggesting that the hierarchical ranking systems prevalent during the plateau phase of the S-curve may be excluding individuals with developmental disabilities. Except for the title and abstract, the main text is written in Japanese.
