Abstract

This study presents and evaluates JOURNEY, an integrated active learning methodology that combines Problem-Based Learning, Design Thinking, agile practices, and mentoring to orient undergraduate computing projects toward the Sustainable Development Goals. Implemented in the Amazon Hacking Program at CESUPA, it engaged 84 students, 18 faculty members, and 12 residents of an Amazonian riverine community on Ilha das Onças. A mixed-methods evaluation revealed moderate-to-high perceptions and a distinct pattern of receptivity, with early cohorts valuing the exploratory axes and advanced cohorts the structured ones. The 18 resulting projects addressed local demands.
