Abstract

This work introduces the Kognem Algebra, a complete operator framework for structural change in reflexive adaptive systems. Kogneme are defined as minimal endomorphisms on a structural space, equipped with a formal algebra (composition, associativity, identity, restricted invertibility), a precise minimality criterion, a local generator that selects admissible structural mutations based on the system’s current state, and admissibility rules expressed through structural feasibility fields. The paper derives chain dynamics that turn sequences of Kogneme into structural computation and links these dynamics to measurable reflexive sensitivity. The result is a fully specified mathematical foundation for rule-class transformation across artificial, biological, cognitive, and social systems. ContextMany adaptive systems can change not only their states, but the rules that govern their behavior. This paper provides a formal description of those rule-level transformations by introducing Kogneme as the smallest structural operators capable of altering rule-classes. The algebra shows how structural change can be decomposed, combined, constrained, and analyzed, establishing a general mathematical framework for understanding how systems rewrite their own organization. ContributionThe paper contributes:• a formal definition of Kogneme as structural endomorphisms• a complete operator algebra including identity, composition, and minimal reversibility• a generator that selects admissible structural changes• admissibility fields describing feasible structural regions• structural computation through operator chains• a formal link between structural change and reflexive sensitivity This establishes the Kognem Algebra as a stand-alone mathematical system for describing structural transformation. Process, not state:Reflexivity specifies a transformation rule rather than a content or level. Domain-independent operator:Applicable across biological, cognitive, artificial, social, industrial, and geophysical systems. Non-ascriptive and empirically testable:Ψ enables comparative analysis of systems via observable structure and recurrence. Higher-order phenomena as specifications:Learning, adaptation, consciousness, governance, and identity are structured regimes of Ψ.
