Abstract

README — HTAP3 Future Fires Emissions (SSP2-4.5) Dataset title:Decadal monthly climatologies of fire emissions by vegetation type under SSP2-4.5 for HTAP3 Institution:North Carolina State University — Department of Marine, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences (NCSU-MEAS) Contacts: Douglas S. Hamilton — dshamil3@ncsu.edu Elisa Bergas-Massó — ebergas@ncsu.edu ____________________________________________________________________________________________________ UPDATED VERSION Some methodological decisions have changed with respect to the previous version. Instead of using the model median across the ensemble of CMIP6 climate models with interactive fires, we now use the model mean, so that the 2015-2020 global budgets are more in line with the GFAS4HTAP dataset. Additionally, the model bias correction is now applied on a seasonal basis instead of annual, and peat fire emissions are now also scaled to match GFAS4HTAP's 2016-2019 global budgets. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________ 1. Description Fire emissions from natural forest and grassland fires as calculated by an ensemble of CMIP6 climate models with interactive fires merged with tropical deforestation and peat fires from the SSPs fire emission dataset. All climate model emissions are biased-corrected towards GFAS4HTAP dry matter consumed (2015-2020 mean). Emission factors used are reported in GFAS4HTAP dataset (https://zenodo.org/records/15721463). A separate file is provided for each species. Each file contains three variables, with emissions from grassland fires, forest fires, and peat fires reported separately. Aggregated data can be found at: 10.5281/zenodo.21416461 Decades provided are: 2015-2020, 2021-2030, 2031-2040, 2041-2050, 2051-2060, 2061-2070, 2071-2080, 2081-2090, 2091-2100 Species reported are: species long_name C carbon combustion (C in CO2, CO, CH4, TPC) CO2 carbon dioxide CO carbon monoxide CH4 methane NMOC_g gaseous non-methane organic compounds not included otherwise H2 hydrogen NOx nitrogen oxides(NOx as NO) N2O nitrous oxide PM2p5 PM 2.5 (particulate matter
