ECR: Coherence-Based Monitoring for Distributed Systems v1.1
Abstract
CR: Coherence-Based Monitoring for Distributed Systems (v1.1) — a diagnostic framework for evaluating operational fidelity in distributed systems by measuring coherence (structural alignment between intended and actual behavior) across system (ECR-S) and network (ECR-N) layers. Defines a unified coherence score, an explicit system/network failure-mode taxonomy (H1–H4, N1–N4), a Stability Ratio for describing drift-vs-correction-capacity boundaries, drift–correction dynamics, cross-layer spiral propagation, and a Recovery Confidence metric for assessing durable incident recovery. v1.1 scope note: this release revises v1.0 (Nov 2025) to correct predictive framing into descriptive/diagnostic language, and formally restricts ECR to passive, human- and policy-mediated observability — direct integration of coherence metrics into automated control loops (autoscalers, rate limiters, circuit breakers) is explicitly deprecated. Section 9 (Validation) now labels each result by evidentiary status; illustrative/synthetic scenarios are distinguished from completed empirical work. ECR remains a theoretical framework warranting empirical validation, not a validated production system. Part of the ECR/EOS framework family (ECR-H hallucination detection, ECR-D drift monitoring, EAAI). Independent research, developed with a multi-model AI-assisted workflow. CC BY 4.0.
