ADAM: Evolution Becoming Self-Aware
Abstract
This paper advances a minimal, falsifiable claim: Homo sapiens is not the endpoint of evolution but the threshold at which evolution becomes self-aware. The human organism compresses phylogenetic history in its genome and developmental pathways (somatic track), while individual development recapitulates key structural transitions of that history at the level of consciousness (awareness track). “Adam” names this threshold: not a first biological specimen, but the moment evolution recognises itself in a finite body. This reframing dissolves the false dichotomy between evolutionary biology (“body from apes”) and theological accounts (“consciousness as distinct”) by assigning them to different but coupled tracks. We formalise this dual-track model, introduce a witness parameter W governing transitions in consciousness, and derive testable predictions.
