Abstract

Description: This research article addresses the long-standing mystery of the replication of fermion generations in the Standard Model. Working within the uniquely defined $\Box^2$ Higher-Derivative Lee-Wick (HDLW) ultraviolet completion established in previous works (Ref. 1, Ref. 2), we demonstrate that exactly three generations are mathematically required to ensure the theory's consistency. Methodology and Key Findings: Regulator Anomaly: We compute the mixed gauge anomaly coefficient $A_4^{\text{reg}}$ arising from the six-component indefinite-metric scalar sector, which acts as the necessary UV regulator to cancel quadratic divergences. Fixed Quantum Numbers: Under the requirements of Lorentz invariance, locality, and hierarchy resolution, the regulator content is unique up to vector-like pairs. This fixes the regulator anomaly contribution to exactly $A_4^{\text{reg}} = 11/18$. Unique Integer Solution: The condition for total anomaly cancellation, $N_g \cdot A_4^{\text{1 gen}} + A_4^{\text{reg}} = 0$ (where the Standard Model contribution is $A_4^{\text{1 gen}} = -11/54$), admits $N_g = 3$ as the unique integer solution. Significance: This result transforms the number of generations from an arbitrary empirical parameter into a theoretical necessity derived from the ultraviolet structure of quantum field theory. It resolves the apparent contradiction with the index theorem by establishing the precedence of gauge anomaly cancellation for unitarity.
