Abstract

This dataset accompanies a manuscript, authored by listed creators, published in Geophysical Research Letters and titled "Assessing the impact of countergradient fluxes on the general circulation in the Community Atmosphere Model". This dataset includes output from four long-term (30 year) runs of the Community Earth System Model version 2 (CESM2). The dataset includes two categories of model output, both from the Community Atmosphere Model version 6 (CAM6): Monthly-average fields for each month in years 2 through 30 of the simulations. 24-hourly instantaneous fields of total precipitation rate and 500 and 850-mb vertical velocity, stored by year for years 2 through 30. This dataset also contains the CESM source code (cam6_4_019), directories for the study's four cases, and scripts used to produce analysis. The four cases are listed as follows: no_prog_test_014h: configuration of CAM6 with diagnostic momentum flux and a high value for the diffusivity parameter no_prog_test_014l: configuration of CAM6 with diagnostic momentum flux and a low value for the diffusivity parameter w_prog_test_202.3: configuration of CAM6 with prognostic momentum flux but no countergradient fluxes w_prog_test_200.3: configuration of CAM6 with prognostic momentum flux, including countergradient fluxes
