La méthode d'évaluation rapide SEARAM - SEAgrass bed Rapid Assessment Method - Approche opérationnelle
Abstract
The SEARAM (Seagrass bed Rapid Assessment Method) protocol is an operational rapid ecological assessment designed to characterize the condition, structure, and vitality of tropical seagrass meadows. It provides a standardized suite of indicators describing canopy structure, species composition, coverage patterns, rhizome exposure, epiphyte load, sediment characteristics, and signs of disturbance or degradation. The approach combines 100 m² circular plots, benthic quadrats, species verification, and the acquisition of key environmental variables. SEARAM uses a semi-quantitative scoring system (0–3) calibrated to local ecological ranges, enabling multimetric indices that capture both meadow structure and vitality. These indices support spatial and temporal comparisons, ecological monitoring, adaptive management, and environmental impact assessments. This guide presents detailed field procedures, sampling strategy, observer intercalibration, and data management requirements. SEARAM offers a harmonized, reproducible, and decision-oriented framework for scientists, managers, and conservation practitioners involved in seagrass ecosystem assessment and management.
