Ethics, Bias, and Intellectual Property Challenges in Generative AI
Abstract
Abstract: Generative AI systems pose unprecedented challenges to human values, including manipulation of thoughts and harmful stereotypes. Traditional legal approaches may be inadequate, as the U.S. Constitution and civil rights laws do not address AI-driven biases. Determining liability is complex due to confounding circumstances affecting outcomes. A patchwork of laws and case law fall short in establishing comprehensive risk management. Evolving legal frameworks are needed to address these threats, including laws that explicitly recognize and protect values and industry guidelines to prevent negative impacts. Achieving ethical AI requires coordinated efforts to develop both technology and law through interdisciplinary dialogue among legal scholars, researchers, and policymakers.
