Abstract

Abstract: Generative AI revolutionizes how many of us work, propelling economic evolution reminiscent of mobile technology’s disruptive effects over the last two decades. Early research on economic and workforce implications of Generative AI, still in its infancy, emphasizes that exploring both potential gains and development challenges is paramount to future success. Research findings explore how an AI-driven economy transforms job landscapes, creates new roles and skill requirements, opens unique opportunities in entrepreneurship, enhances human–machine collaboration in the workplace, and poses equity, access, and inclusivity challenges. Economic evolution driven by the technology offers opportunities for early adopters pursuing the creation of new ecosystems and ecosystems harnessing the technology for venture creation. Generative AI democratizes the creation of products and services that drive economic growth. Persistent encouragement, explicit guidance, and connection by institutional actors, alongside targeted investment resources, could inspire and facilitate connected action by startups, corporates, and research. For these communities, integrating the technology into product and service design and pursuing collaboration and networking in development and testing could confer a significant advantage.
