A Framework for Temporal Metric Modulation in Cosmology
Abstract
This version (v2) represents a significant theoretical and numerical expansion of the initial $\sigma$-framework proposed in the previous version. The manuscript has been restructured into a formal academic format, incorporating a rigorous theoretical foundation and the latest 2024 cosmological constraints. Key Enhancements in this Version: Theoretical Grounding: The $\sigma$-framework is now formally embedded within the Effective Field Theory (EFT) of Dark Energy. We demonstrate how the temporal metric deformation (lapse function modulation) can be consistently treated as a restricted class of EFT modifications. Gravitational Wave Consistency: A detailed proof is provided to show that the framework strictly preserves the tensor propagation speed ($c_T = 1$), naturally satisfying constraints from GW170817 without fine-tuning. Updated MCMC Analysis: The statistical analysis has been upgraded using the latest DESI 2024 BAO and Pantheon+ datasets. We report a significantly higher statistical preference over $\Lambda$CDM, with $\Delta\chi^2 \approx -22.5$ (approximately $4.7\sigma$ significance). Refined Parametrization: We introduce a cubic temporal modulation $\sigma(a) = a^3[\beta_0 + \beta_1(1-a)]$, where the evolution parameter $\beta_1$ is found to deviate from zero at a $>7\sigma$ level. Observational Signature: This version predicts a unique, sign-changing modification of structure growth ($f\sigma_8$), providing a concrete, testable signature for upcoming large-scale structure surveys like Euclid and LSST.
