Sustainable Development Pedagogy (SDP): A Framework for Integrating Green Constraints and Generative AI in Teacher Education
Abstract
This report presents Sustainable Development Pedagogy (SDP), an instructional design framework that addresses the dual challenge of environmental sustainability and pedagogical efficiency in teacher education. SDP posits that imposing a strict “Green Constraint”—a zero‑paper, fully digital workflow—combined with generative AI capabilities, creates a measurable cognitive “Design Leap” in instructional quality. Unlike conventional technology integration models that treat AI as a supplementary tool, SDP repositions AI as a scaffolded medium for constructing authentic, inclusive, and publicly verifiable learning environments. Drawing on empirical evidence from geography teacher education [1–4], this framework demonstrates how material constraints can act as catalysts for pedagogical innovation, transforming teacher workflows from manual correction to strategic analysis, and shifting assessment from static paper‑based tasks to dynamic digital interactions. The report outlines the theoretical underpinnings, operational methodology, and practical implications of SDP for teacher educators, curriculum developers, and educational researchers.
