Abstract

Psychological science encompasses multiple explanatory traditions, including affective, cognitive, behavioral, developmental, relational, and existential approaches. While each tradition offers domain-specific insight, the absence of a shared architectural reference contributes to persistent construct conflation, especially around identity formation, relational functioning, and meaning-making across time. Contemporary integrative frameworks (e.g., Research Domain Criteria [RDoC], hierarchical dimensional models, network approaches) illustrate structural alternatives to categorical nosology, yet they operate primarily within clinical domains rather than as broad maps of psychological organization. This paper proposes a multidimensional architectural framework describing psychological organization across eight interrelated but functionally distinct dimensions: sensation, emotion, cognition, resonance (organizational coherence constraints), identity formation, relational systems, existential context, and meaning-making across time. The framework’s central contribution is a strict separation of (a) structure: enduring functional organization, from (b) development: temporal change in availability, alignment, and integration. The model is descriptive and integrative rather than diagnostic or prescriptive. It reduces category error, supports interdisciplinary dialogue, and improves clinical and theoretical formulation by locating phenomena at appropriate functional levels without collapsing them into trait labels, stages, or moral hierarchies.
