Abstract

Jamming Physics | VP Theory This deposit is The Configured Continuum, the foundational whitepaper of the Volume Particle (VP) program. It supersedes the earlier fluid-dynamics edition under this concept record and integrates four previously separate lines of the author's work into one self-contained foundation built on a single thesis: fluid form follows arrangement. The continuum is taken to be the coarse-graining of a jammed configuration of finite-volume particles (a VP "arrangement"), and the document argues — with reproducible evidence — that the governing equations, the selected length scales, and the dissipation of a flow are determined by that arrangement rather than postulated. Three textbook facts usually treated as emergent — a vortex's chosen core size, the length scale turbulence selects, and the dissipation that refuses to vanish as viscosity → 0 — are recast as necessary consequences of arrangement. Epistemic discipline. Every load-bearing statement is graded [LOCK] (locked primitive/definition), [DERIVE] (proved or reproduced to a stated tolerance), or [GATE] (falsifiable conjecture with a named failure condition); there is no parameter tuning (an explicit no-tuning audit states the origin of every number); and every computational claim ships both a runnable reproducibility box and a plain-pseudocode algorithm box, so a reader — or an AI — can re-implement each result without opening the bundle. Axiomatic core (rotation forces structure). A two-body interaction is provably insufficient — under the unique isotropic quadratic-spin kernel a co-rotating pair cannot self-propel (a No-Go theorem) — so the minimal interaction is an irreducible three-body term whose smallest unit is a triangle (signed area × spin sum). Energy leaves the conservative core only through rearrangement events, by the law ε_bind = Θσ (σ ≥ 0). A dimensionless diagnosis (the Π-invariants) and an event renormalization group locate the selected arrangement as the RG fixed point where the spatial invariant Π_L stops flowing, (1+α⋆) = ψ + χ — the operational, falsifiable form of the thesis. The four pillars (the independently reproduced core): I — Structural. Kernel coarse-graining forces the exact mass and momentum balance laws as identities, with an Irving–Kirkwood stress; the Newtonian / Navier–Stokes closure follows conditionally (a gate on stress–strain linearity, effective isotropy, and short memory, De ≪ 1), with the viscosity sign μ ≥ 0 forced. Inviscid invariants and the energy budget reproduce to 10⁻⁶–10⁻⁸. II — Geometric. A rotational core capacity identity, N⋆ r_eff² = φ s L_core², fixes the effective core length exactly once the arrangement is specified; a cross-regime audit (four flow regimes, three independent segmenters) reproduces the published RCCI tables to ~10⁻¹² (machine precision). III — Dynamical. A binding-versus-penalty dispersion selects a length L⋆ ∝ (σ/ε)^½ with an exact one-half control exponent, independent of the growth offset; a nonlinear Swift–Hohenberg pattern and a deliberately blind DNS pipeline both recover it (β̂ ≈ 0.501, 95% interval containing ½, shuffle-test null excluded). IV — Dissipative. Rearrangement events define a nonnegative dissipation measure; the steady-state energy budget is exact, and a metriplectic (GENERIC) decomposition derives saturation E⋆ = I/(aν+b) → channel migration ε_bind → I as ν → 0 (an Onsager-type anomaly fixed by the large scale, not the molecular viscosity). The flux-carrying mechanism is exact in 1D Burgers, resolution-stable in 2D, and resolution-converged in developed 3D turbulence (forward energy flux on intense-strain events, top-20% ≈ 60%, corr ≈ 0.80, converged across N = 64–128); an honest negative control (a naive contact-merger rule) is reported precisely because it fails to close the budget. Reach and cross-scale extensibility: Universality (U1–U3). The three mechanisms are instances of structures physics already treats as universal: the anomalous-dissipation defect measure (Burgers shocks are events), box-counting / measure-accounting (the capacity identity holds in d = 2–5 as a multifractality probe), and the pattern-selection normal form (a Schnakenberg/Turing system selects the same √-law length). The contribution is to show these are one statement seen three ways. Extensibility (E1–E4). An independent line of the author's genome work converges on the same capacity identity, N v_eff ≈ φ V_core — the same equation as the fluid RCCI in d = 3, reached from sequence data — with the preferred fill sitting at the jamming point φ_c ≈ 0.64; Rayleigh–Plateau droplet break-up is the same length selection; incompressible continuity alone explains why a planar vortex (typhoon) breathes while a spherical core closes. Bridges to the quantum / particle scale are stated as GATEs with explicit falsification routes. The thesis at work. Five long-studied phenomena — Jupiter's Great Red Spot (selected size and persistence as one fact), Saturn's hexagon (mode-locking to a discrete symmetry), the typhoon (forced co-rotation made planetary), Rayleigh–Bénard convection (plumes as flux-carrying events), and ocean / zonal jet staircases (selected spacing) — are recognized, not derived: interpretive applications, graded accordingly, with the empirical record untouched. Scope — what the document explicitly does NOT claim. It does not overturn the Navier–Stokes equations — it derives them as the Newtonian closure and uses them throughout; it does not prove global regularity (it reframes the Millennium question, and any well-posedness statement is a GATE); A0 is offered as a sufficient arrangement, not the unique microscopic substrate of fluids; and the infinite-Reynolds asymptotic form of the flux-carrying claim — whether the carrying support tends to a measure-zero set as Re → ∞ — remains the genuine open Onsager / Duchon–Robert problem. These open gates are stated as research frontiers, not defects. Reproducibility. The companion package (configured_continuum_repro.zip) is a self-contained bundle of 17 standalone NumPy/SciPy modules with fixed seeds (deterministic), the pre-captured stdout of every module, frozen RCCI sample tables, and a README reproducibility map linking each graded claim to its script and tolerance. validate_all.py returns 5/5 PASS on the core conservation / budget / saturation checks.
