Abstract

Description This dataset contains multimodal physiological signals collected using Shimmer3 GSR+ and EmotiBit wearable devices in a experimental protocol designed to investigate the effect of sensor placement, performance, signal quality, and practical deployment constraints. This scenario was designed as a multi-device recording setup, enabling direct comparisons across platforms under the same acquisition conditions. Recordings were acquired using different body placements. EmotiBit was positioned on the dorsal and volar sides of the wrist. Shimmer3 GSR+ recordings were acquired using two configurations: a wrist placement, with GSR electrodes on the volar side of the wrist and the PPG sensor on the dorsal side, and a finger placement corresponding to the placement recommended for the device. The dataset includes the full set of signals available from each device. The associated study primarily focuses on electrodermal activity (GSR), photoplethysmography (PPG), and PPG-derived cardiac metrics, including heart rate and heart rate variability. Raw exports and parsed channels are provided to facilitate reproducibility and alternative analyses. NOTE: This version contains exclusively the placement-focused recordings corresponding to Scenario 2 of previous versions of the dataset. Scenario 1, which contained simultaneous recordings from Empatica E4, Shimmer3 GSR+, and EmotiBit, is not included in this version. This separation is intended to provide an exact and self-contained dataset corresponding to the placement-focused study reported in the associated manuscript. All signals used in the associated study were processed using a unified and reproducible signal-processing pipeline (https://github.com/gadea-lucas/wearables-signal-comparison) and are intended for research purposes, including wearable sensing evaluation, psychophysiological signal analysis, and affective computing. Folder structure The uploaded archive contains a single top-level data/ directory containing the placement-focused recordings: data/emotibit_dorsal/ /EmotiBit recordings acquired at the wrist dorsal placement. Each participant folder contains: raw/: raw EmotiBit exports for each recording session. parsed/: channel-wise files (EDA, PPG, heart rate–related streams, motion axes) and time synchronization files. data/emotibit_volar/ /EmotiBit recordings acquired at the wrist volar placement, following the same structure as the dorsal recordings. data/shimmer_wrist/Per-participant .csv files containing Shimmer3 GSR+ recordings acquired at the Empatica-equivalent placement (i.e., GSR at wrist volar position while PPG at wrist dorsal position). data/shimmer_fingers/Per-participant .csv files containing Shimmer3 GSR+ recordings acquired at the fingers placement (as recommended in the device manual). data/Stamps/Contains one .txt file per participant with time-stamps of experimental events, enabling temporal alignment and event-based analysis within this placement-focused setting. NOTE: Data are organized by device, and grouped by anonymized participant IDs (e.g., 13, 14, …). Individual recordings are provided as timestamped files inside each participant folder.
