Abstract

Current computational models of cognition, particularly Large Language Models (LLMs), excel at syntactic processing but struggle to integrate affective phenomenology as a functional constraint on reasoning. This paper introduces the Pattern-Resonant Qualia (PRQ) framework, a topological-dynamical model that unifies semantic structure and emotional weight within a single continuous manifold. We define “meaning” not as discrete data, but as a position within a high-dimensional topology (ϕ) shaped by an emotional curvature field (E), quantified as Shannon surprisal or Free Energy. We posit that cognitive activation follows a trajectory—the Projectory—governed by a formal equation of motion driven by Cognitive Momentum (M) and constrained by the gradient of the emotional landscape. By introducing Functories (structure- preserving maps) that form only under specific resonance and energetic conditions, we derive a “Triple Lock” mechanism for associative thought. This framework mathematically predicts four distinct behavioral regimes—Linear Logic, Flow, Rumination, and Drift—based on the interplay between momentum and curvature. Version 2.0 Addition: We formalize the Ideation Terminus (t∗), a convergence condition defining when a Projectory achieves cognitive finality. This terminus emerges naturally from the manifold geometry when gradient nulling, momentum exhaustion, and Triple Lock closure coincide, establishing that intelligence includes the capacity to recognize the Rest State. We conclude by proposing that “understanding” is an emergent property of navigating this energy landscape, offering a falsifiable alternative to purely computational theories of mind.
